The chart below gives information about how families in one country spent
their weekly income in 1968 and in 2018.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and
make comparisons where relevant

The bar chart below shows the percentage of weekly income used by families in one country to pay for eight items over two years: 1968 and 2018.
In 1968, 35% of the wages of families in this area were used to pay for food. Spending on housing, clothing and footwear accounts for about 10%, and the numbers for leisure, transportation, personal goods and household goods are also roughly the same (about 8%). In contrast, only a small fraction of weekly income is used for fuel and power, with about 6%.
After half a century, in 2018 the different spending patterns evolved even further. Families have more than tripled their leisure time to about 23% since 1968, reaching a peak. In addition, they also spend most of their weekly earnings on transportation and housing, about 14% and 18% respectively. In contrast when spending on food halved, we saw a sharp decline in spending on fuel and power, clothing and footwear, and personal goods, by 5% or less, reaching the minimum level. After all household goods are the only cost constant at 7%
Overall, the highest level of household spending in 1968 was on food while the highest level of spending was on leisure spending in 2018. Among these categories, food, fuel and power , clothes and footware as well as personal goods tended to decrease compared to 1968 while housing, transport and leisure increased and the remaining group of goods (household goods) remained unchanged
