The chart below shows the number of men and women in further education in Britain in three periods and whether they were studying full-time or part-time.
The bar chart compares how many male students and female students have studied in full-time and part-time education in the three following periods: 1970 to 1971, 1980 to 1981 and 1990 to 1991.
It shows clearly that through three periods, the number of people of both genders in part-time education increased. In general, the number of male students in part-time education increased from nearly 100 thousand to 200 thousand . Also, after three periods, the number of female students in part-time education rose significantly from about 50 thousand (1970-1971) to 190 thousand (1980-1981) and reached 200 thousand (1990-1991).
The number of full-time male students decreased considerably from 1000 thousand to 850 thousand in the two first periods, rising slightly to 890 thousand in the early nineties. In contrast, the amount of full-time female students rose quickly and reached nearly 1100 thousand in the period of 1990-1991.
In short, the number of female students in both areas rose significantly while the amount of men in full-time education dropped slightly and was alternating.
