The chart illustrates the ratio of UK citizens of different age periods who get exposed to the Internet on a daily basis between 2003 and 2006.
In general, it is apparent that the Internet gained the most popularity among the youth who get constant access to social media every day. Furthermore, the number of people who enjoyed the Internet has an upward trend over the studied period.
Looking at an early age group, the 16-24 years old participants were the most active users who spent nearly 80 percent of their time on the Internet, before peaking at 100 percent in 2005. After that, this figure saw generally slow down to 90 percent in the last examined year. Placing the second and the third highest proportion of utilizing the Internet were inhabitants aged 25-44 and 45-54 with relatively similar rates, increasing steadily from approximately 50% and 60%, in turn, to 80% by the end of 2006.
Turning to the age group 55-64, making up around a third in 2003, then there was a slight rise throughout 2 years before climbing to nearly a half in 2006. In contrast, the least engaged Internet users were the 65+ age group with a moderate increase from 18% to 20% between 2003 and 2006. Notably, in 2003, people aged 65 and above did not use the Internet.
