The given bar chart illustrates the proportions of male and female workers at various ages from 60 to 64 in four nations, during the years 1970 and 2000.
Overall, the percentages of male workers increased in all the four countries. It is also noticeable that Japan was the country with the highest percentages of workers of both genders in both years.
Regarding the men in employment, Japan was ranked first in 1970, with over 70%, and grew slightly to 86% in 2000. Belgium started at about one-fourth of that for Japan, in the bottom position, but quadrupled in the end. The proportions for USA and Australian male workers were 55% and 47% respectively, and these figures rose to around 75% in the final year.
Concerning the women in employment, Japan was 40% in the first year, being at the top level. This country still maintained the dominant position in 2000, with precisely 43%. Belgium was at the lowest level in the two years, with 7% and 8%. The USA stood at the second place in the first year, at around 40%., and dropped to 36% in the final year. Australian female workers were around a half of those for Japan in 1970 and 2000.
