The charts below show the percentage of water used for different purposes in six areas of the world.
The pie charts compare the amount of water used expended on industry, agriculture and domestic in six of the most important areas in the world.
Overall, the water used for agriculture purposes is the most popular sector in four out of six countries, whereas in Europe and North America it is industrial use the most commonly used.
At first glance, Central Asia, Africa and South America follow a similar pattern regarding expenditure. The use of water in these three countries is three times more than the spending in the other two sectors. Using all these three countries this element in the second place for domestic at around 20 per cent or less. Furthermore, only a small fraction of the total is used for industry. On the contrary to the above countries, although South East Asia account for its highest percentage of water used in agriculture, industrial use is the following sector.
Nonetheless, North America and Europe dedicate approximately half of the expenditure on industrial purposes. Agriculture is following bigger segment on the charts at 39 per cent of the former country and 32 per cent the latter. Finally, domestic use of water accounts for the smallest proportions, both under 15 per cent.
