The diagrams below show the development of the horse over a period of 40 million years. Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The diagrams illustrate the evolution of the horse, especially in terms of the foot stucture, over a 40-million-year duration.
It is evident from the diagrams that there are 4 main stages of the development shown. Additionally, it commences with the step called Eohippus and ends with the modern horse.
About 40 years ago, the horse was known as Eohippus, which was quite small and had a foot structure of four digits. To 30 million years ago, the size of the Mesohippus was larger compared to that of Eohippus. In addtion, a noticeable change was that the structure of foot encompassed three toes .
The next stage of the development was called Mecrychippus, which happened around 15 million years ago. During this stage, whereas the size of Mecrychippus did not undergo any significant shift, its foot structure was divided into segments and the middle digit was more larger, which made it come more outstanding. Up to now, the modern Horse is bigger and has more fur on its head. Besides that, three toes in the foot structure of Mecrychippus have been substituted by one large digit.
