The first chart below gives information about the money spent by British parents on their children’s sports between 2008 and 2014. The second chart shows the number of children who participated in three sports in Britain over the same time period.
The line graphs illustrate how much money was splurged on children's sports by British parents and how many youngsters took part in three sports including football, athletics and swimming from 2008 to 2014.
As can be seen from the line graphs, there was a steady increase in the number of money spent on sports for kids throughout the surveyed period. Moreover while all three sports recorded a certain rise, it was football that had the biggest number of participants.
In particular, starting at 20 pounds per month in 2008, the fee that parents in Britain paid for their children's sporting activities' went through a steady growth over the next 6 years. It was in 2014 that the figure almost doubled the 2008's number, at about 33 pounds per month.
Furthermore, there were over 7.5 million children who played football in 2008, as against under 2.5 million and 0.5 million children enrolling in athletics and swimming respectively. While the number in football and swimming kept increasing until the end of the survey, that in athletics remained the same in the first two years before upsurging to 5 million in 2012. After that, it decreased slightly to under 5 million in 2014.
