The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the USA since 1980 with projections until 2030.

The given line graph depicts the history of U.S. energy consumption from 1980 to 2008, date of the report, and the prospective trend deduced from then to 2030.

Renewable energy sources have experienced a slight increase in utilisation since the ‘80s, and it is not projected a significant uptrend. Nuclear energy, solar/wind and water power have been the least used resources, around 4 quadrillion units each of the three types. It is observed however a slow increase in nuclear and solar/wind power consumption (of almost 1.5 quadrillion units more each of them for 2030) but hydropower use expectations are to remain the same.

On the other hand, after a short descent during the firsts 80s, petrol and coal suffered a steady rose in use, along with natural gas. Nevertheless, petrol and oil are the most extended source of energy, and the tendency indicates that it will remain the same for the next 20 years. In a different way, natural gas will maintain stable around 20 quadrillion units per year from now onwards.

In general, the chart shows a predominant consumption of no renewable sources of energy, although apparently, we will see an increment in the use of nuclear, solar and wind energy.
