The given graph illustrates the amount of money which is devoted to five major field of research (health, space, energy, general science and other) by the USA government over the period from 1980 to 2008. An overall view, indicates that the largest amount of money is spent into health research while the least amount of financial assistance is allocated to general science research.

As it can be seen, the money which has been spent on health research was about 8 billion in 1980 and it has decreased slightly in 1984, but it has increased significantly over the next ten years and reached a peak at over 20 in 2004. However, it declined to around 17 in 2008.

On the other hand, the amount of money which is spent on the space has boost gradually and reached to less than 10 in 2008, while other research experienced the opposite trend. In fact, despite the fact that it has surged from 1988 to 2000, but overall, the financial aids on these subjects has reduced in comparison with 1980 which was about 7. The total amount of money that is spent on energy and general science experienced some fluctuation over the mentioned period, but they also experienced an upward trend and reached to 7 and 5, respectively.
