Essay topics:

The graph below shows average carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions per person in the United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007.

The line chart illustrates four different nations namely United Kingdom, Sweden, Italy, and Portugal in terms of the figure for carbon dioxide emissions from 1967 to 2007.

Overall, it is immediately clear that there was a downward trend in UK and Sweden. By contrast, Italy and Portugal saw an upward trend over the period of 40 years.

Looking to the first two countries, UK made up the largest figure for carbon dioxide emissions, at roughly 11 metric tonnes in 1967 then decreasing sightly to 9 metric tonnes in 2007. Otherwise, Sweden saw a sharp increase and reached a peak at approximately 10.5 metric tonnes in 1977. During the next 30 years, the emission of carbon dioxide in Sweden dropped considerably to 5 metric tonnes.

Following the next two regions, Portugal accounted for the lowest figure for carbon dioxide emissions in 1967 before going up dramatically to 5 metric tonnes in 2007. Besides, Italy made up over 4 metric tonnes, which was nearly twice as high as that for Portugal in 1967. After that, a steady rise to roughly 7.5 metric tonnes was seen in Italy during the period from 1967 to 2007.
