The graph represents various sources of air contaminants in the UK from 1990 to 2005.
In general, it can be seen that the total amount of air pollutants decreases sharply from 1990 to 2005. The most striking fall was from industrial zones.
In 1990, the total number of air pollutants was 7 million tonnes. This figure fell significantly to 4 million tonnes in 1999 and continued to decline to over 3 million tonnes in 2005.
It is noticeable that the amount of industry contaminants declines significantly from nearly 5.5 million tonnes in 1990 to 2 million tonnes in 2005 with a slight fall between 1993 and 1996. The was a difference between the number of industrial air pollutants and 2 other sources; air pollution from transportation and households was much lower than the one from industrial areas. Air contamination from transportation remained at 1 million tonnes; whereas, there was a minor reduction from the number of household air pollutants from 1 million in 1990 to nearly 0.2 million tonnes in 2005.
