Essay topics:

The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.

The given graph reveals that the percentage of residents who are aged 65 and over in three different countries including America, Sweden and japan from 1940 and 2040.

Overall, the aged population in the USA and Sweden would be increased gradually during 100 years while there will be a rapid increase of the proportion of seniors in japan after 2020 although there is a slight reduction in 1960.

To begin with the aged population in the USA and Sweden, it can be observed that under 10% of residents are the aged 65 and over, and it has increased slightly although there are several fluctuations between 1940 and 2020. It is clear that there is a big difference from 2000 to 2020 which the aged people in United State has surged to 20% while old generation in Sweden has not been increased but dropped to just under 15%. In 2040, it is expected that the seniors in both countries would be extended to 20-25%.

Despite the growth of old population in former countries, there are only under 5% old residents in japan between 1960 and 2000. However, it would be skyrocketed between 2020 and 2040 from 10% to over 25%. Therefore, Japan should be well prepared to confront with aged society in the future.
