how the elderly in the US spent their free time from 1980 to 2010
The line graph gives information on how the elderly in the US spent their free time from 1980 to 2010. Overall, most of the activities were becoming more and more popular. However, going to theater lost it interest among the old Americans over the period shown.
From the beginning years, the proportion of people watching TV in the USA went up to 70% in 2000s then dropped to 65% in 2010s. Reading gained its popularity and became the most favorite activity. In 1980s, only 20% of the old American read books. Over the past 30 years, it went straight to 80%. Referring to others activities, the least enjoyed activity was going to theater. Starting at 50% in 1980s, the figure declined dramatically to 20% in 1990s before witnessing a slight decline by 15% in the last year.
Both hiking and surfing the Internet steeply rocketed. In the 1980s, 50% of the elderly in USA spent time on hiking and only 5% of them surfed the Internet. These figures for hiking and surfing the Internet raised to 60% and 50% among the old American respectively, but there was a drop in the percentage of people going hiking from 1990s to 2000s before rising dramatically in the last year.
