The table illustrates the change in forested land acreage in six different continents of the world through the period form 1990 to 2005 in millions of hectares term.

Overall, the hectares of forest areas in Asia and Europe saw a notorious increase. By contrast, in four other parts, the forest acreage seemed to be fallen in different degrees through the surveyed period.

Looking at the details, the total forest acreage in Europe had reached 989 millions hectares in 1990, however, this number then significantly grew up to 1001 millions ha after 15 years. Unlike Europe, the forested land in Asia had suffered from a inconsiderable decrease in 2000, after that it rose noticeably from 570 millions ha to 584 millions ha in the next 5 years.

In Africa and South America, the acreage of forested land had been falling dramatically, from 749 millions ha to 691 millions ha and from 946 millions ha to 882 millions ha respectively. Nevertheless, this number in Oceania had just seen a gradual drop from 199 millions ha to 197 millions ha through the 15 years period. More specially, the hectares of forest areas in North America had just gone down from 708 millions ha to 705 millions ha in the first surveyed period, after that, it remained unchanged in the next 5 years.
