The tables provide information on the sales of coffee and bananas which are labelled as Fairtrade in five European countries over a period of five years. It can be clearly seen that the total amount of sales in these countries significantly increased.
Firstly, overall, the sales of coffee rose in each country. In 1999, the largest sales of coffee was in Switzerland with 3 million of euros. However, after enormous growth from 1.5 million to 20 million, UK had the highest sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee in 2004, while Switzerland only had 6 million sales at the same time. Furthermore, there were slight increases in the sales in Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden, with 0.2 million, 0.7 million, and 0.2 million respectively.
Secondly, the total amount of Fairtrade-labelled bananas sales in these five countries tripled over five-year period, although there was a small drop in Sweden and Denmark sales. In 1999, the highest sales was in Switzerland with 15 million sales and this domination still remain the same until 2004 with the sales of 47 million. On the other hand, the figures in UK and Belgium rose approximately 4.5 million and 3.4 million respectively in this period.
