The pie charts illustrate the proportion of residential water use for five purposes in the UK in two years, namely 1988 and 2008.
In general, there were a noticeable increase in the percentage of residential water use for watching and toilet, while a downward trend can be seen if we look at the figures for kitchen, bathroom, and garden. It is also clear that the figure for the bathroom was the highest among five aspects in 1988; however, that for the toilet was larger than for any other in 2008.
In 1988, A quarter of residential water was used for bathroom, compared to only 22% for garden and 20% for kitchen. Over the following 20 years, the UK saw the proportion of domestic water used for bathroom decrease slightly, to 22%. At the same period, the percentage of domestic water used for garden fell to 14%, and the figure for kitchen decreased to 7%
At the beginning of the period, the proportion of residential water used for toilet stood at 29%, while the figure for washing was lower, at 28%. After 20 years, the percentage of residential water used for washing rose sharply, reaching 28%. Futhermore, Toilet followed a similar trend, to that of washing, with figures increasing to 29% in 2008
