advantages and disadvantages of four-day working
In the set of materials, the reading section claims that in the United States worker wants to do work four-day in a week and they can agree to accept less pay for that work. Also in the reading section there are discuss how economy grow and increase the profit of any individual company. However in the lecture, Professor refuses all the benefits that mention in reading section.
First, in the reading passage writer state that the four-day working increases the profits of company. Because in four-day working condition employee feels more fresh and alert, and the result of that he do fewer costly error in his work. The appointing more staff is for same work for five days company want to pay full salary to them. However in the lecture professor disagree with all the point mention in the reading passage. From the professor’s point of view the four-day working is not profitable for company, when any company appoint new staff they have a need of training. Company want to invest more on new staff training, also do arrangement of their seating and offer them computers for their work. This will make company more loss.
Second, from passage it state that the four-day working is offers more employments. But in lecture professor state that there are possibilities of company want except five-day’s work in four-day, so the company don’t have need of any other employee for that work. It reduces the employments as well as the pay scale of employee. Professor also mention that the remaining work after four days are more costly for company, because they want to pay for that work more than regular pay scale.
Finally, in the passage writer say that four-day working could improve the quality of life of employee due to more free time. He can use that time for his family, pursing his private interest and enjoy his life more attractively. But in lecture professor gives some evidence against four-day working, he says due to four-day working job opportunities are reduces and the result of that is unemployment.
