Both reading passage and lecture discusses about the possibility of the survival of common North Slope Dinosaurs, typically known as "Edmontosaurus", in the harsh conditions of the winter climate. While the author suggests three possible reasons for its survival due to migration in the south, the speaker challenges the proposition made by an author. In her opinion, the migration is not feasible for the survival of such dinosaurs for several reasons which will be discussed in the following paragraphs.

The author, in the reading passage, beings with mentioning that tendency of the edmontosaurus feeding on the plants is one of the possible reason of migration to South, since the plants are incapable of growing during winter climate; however, the lecturer confutes the authors position. She says that the particular dinosaurs were not necessitated to travel for the food. The main reason for this is: environmental temperature during that particular period was typically warmer as they were exposed to the sunlight; thus, it completely favored the growth of the plants during summer time. Consequently, during the winter period, the dead plants aided enough nutrients supply to the dinosaurs due to which they do not need to travel to South for food. Apparently, it falsifies the claim of the author.

The writer further asserts that dinosaurs lived in the group forming a herd: the skeletons of number of dinosaurs were found on the same location. As a results, it was highly probable that they travel in the herds for efficient collaboration in the migration. The speaker questions the authors argument by stating that there might be other purposes for living in herds--not only for the migration. She posits that one possibility for the group living can be for additional protection from their predators. Roosevelt elk, for example, considered as large plant eating animals, never migrated from one place to another, although they traveled in herds. Obviously, it is opposite to the idea what author presents.

The reading article, finally, posits that the capability of the dinosaurs to travel longer distances in shorter period of time helped them in migrating distant location towards the south. As opposed to articles opinion, the lecturer contends that as compared to adult dinosaurs juvenile dinosaurs were not capable of making similar speed and energy. Therefore, it was not possible for the dinosaurs to travel downwards: juvenile ones were highly dependent on them for their survival.

To summarize, the author and speaker holds opposite views on the possibility of survival of dinosaurs by migration which will be difficult for both of them in finding common ground.
