In this set of material, the reading states that Jane Austen was a famous novelist, however there is not any record from her face, except a simple sketch by her sister, Cassandra, however a portrait has recently found that the reading with providing three reasons claims that it is belonged to Austen in teenager age. On the other hand the professor finds all reasons unconvincing. The information the lecture provides contradicts the fact outlined in the reading passage.
First of all, in the article is mentioned that after Austen's death, her family allowed her portrait to use in an edition of her letters and they affirmed the authoritative of this portrait, in contrast the lecture argues that this permission came when Austen had died up 70 years ago; hence the members of her family could not see her.
Moreover, the article declares that the portrait was similar to Cassandra’s sketch, even thought it was very crude, however total shape of portrait's face is very much like Cassandra’s plan, on the contrary this view is challenged by the speaker. It can be derived from the lecture that Austen's family was very big with numerous people and especially a large number of teenage girls. It is possible that this portrait was belonged to one of these girls, may be Mary Cambain, she was Austen's nice.
The final point, presented in the reading is that the portrait's style is analogous of the Humphrey's style- he was a famous painter who was working for wealthy people when Austen was teenager. At the same time it can be obtained from lecture that the back of painting was the black canvas and this type of canvas was being made and sold by Villiam who was living when Austen was old.
