The table illustrates information about how many passengers who used three categories of major airports in England over the course of 5 years starting in 1998.
Overall, it is immediately obvious that there were a considerable upward trend in the number of visitors of both Gatwick and Stansted airport . While the number of people using Heathrow airport fluctuated over the period shown.
Looking at the details, the figure for Gatwick airport stood at 36.5 million of people, which was the highest point in 1998. While the number of passengers using Heathrow and the Stansted airport was lower, at 27.2 million and 17.3 million. Despite rising considerably to reach the peak at 48.2 million in 2000, the figure for Heathrow then fell dramatically to 33.2 million over the next 2 years, finishing at 45.6 million in 2003.
If we look at Stansted, the number of visitors rose sharply from 17.3 million in 1998 to 39.9 million in 2000, the number then leveled off at just 43.3 million by 2003. The trend was similar in the number of travelers using the Gatwick airport, went up steadily to 69.3 million, which was the highest number of the whole graph.
