The charts below show the percentage of water used for different purposes in six areas of the world.
Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.
The pie charts given demonstrate water consumption in six regions all over the world for three purposes, namely agriculture, industry and residence.
As can be inferred from the graph, it is immediately obvious that water is consumed predominantly for farming activities in South America, Africa, Central Asia and Southeast Asia. Meanwhile, generous allocation of water in North America and Europe is recorded for industrial purpose.
In Africa, agriculture accounts for the bulk of water consumed at 84%. Whereas, there is no significant discrepancies seen in the two other categories with the figure of 7 and 9% respectively for industrial and household use of water. A similar pattern takes place in South America, Central Asia and Southeast Asia, where farming purpose makes up a large proportion of 71, 88 and 81% respectively. The figure for industry ranges from 5-12% for these regions.
Contrary to the above regions, North America and Europe see an opposite water consumption with roughly one third of the amount used for farming, at 39 and 32% respectively. Comparatively, the distribution of water for agriculture purpose in these two areas is rather uniform. In particular, only a meager proportion of water (13%) is allocated to
residential use in NA, while this amount in Europe stays at 15%.
