people have little understanding of the importance of the natural world

In the modern life, it is true that many citizens lack of an
insight into the nature. This development can be attributed to several factors
and there are feasible steps could be taken to raise people’ awareness of the
natural world.

There are two main reasons accounting for this phenomenon.
From an education perspective, while many exam-driven curriculums place
excessive emphasis on so-called “core subjects” such as maths and physics, they
tend to undermine the others, including nature-related subjects. This can make students
see no reasons to gain an insight into the nature. Additionally, these
education systems often leave students little chances to go on field trips to
zoos or natural reserves. All these combined lead to the fact that for these
students, natural world still remains an unfamiliar concept. Another reason is
that nowadays, many traditional rituals related to the natural seasons have
sunk into obscurity. To illustrate, celebrations of nature at times of spring
or harvest, which once provided a link to the Mother Nature, have disappeared
among the urban dwellers for decades.

However, people can study the natural world in many ways. Firstly,
schools should incorporate nature-based disciplines including environmental
science and biology into both curriculum and extracurricular activities. For
instance, taking excursions to the nature reserve such as Bach Ma National Park in Vietnam is a
practical way for students to gain their first-hand experiences of the nature.
Secondly, environmental activists can take advantage of the proliferation of
social media such as the internet and TV documentaries to disseminate the
significance of nature. In this way, they can provide the public with not only a
great appreciation for the nature but also the reasons to give a hand in
combatting environmental degradation.

In conslusion, the insufficiency in knowledge of the nature
can stem from two main sources and can be overcome by several solutions taking
place in the fields of education and social media.
