Reading is more educational than watching videos or TV.
To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In visual context, there are mostly two ways in which we inherit different types of media i.e. through videos or by reading. While reading can be be more educational than videos or TV, it is questionable each and every time depending on the scenario.
For most of the user, a striking visual is more appealing than generating a figement of their own imagination. Most of the content available for reading usually contain very few visual illutrations such as images, and is demanding the user to use their own imagination to generate a picture of that scenario. But in a video content, the information is readily available by forming a combination of thousands of those visuals. That way, an extra deciphering step introduced by the text content is removed and allows the user to understand the information easily.
Now, consider we need to educate a user about a complex topic: climate change. In terms of readable content, there are millions of research paper written over those with tons of calculation of related data in them, showing the temperatures at which the ice melts. Now, a documentary is made about the climate change, showing a visual data alongside several comprehensive explanations given by the experts about the data. For a person who is working in this field, the textual content would be a goldmine. But for most people who just want an understanding of this issue, it would be almost impossible to decipher the information given in text. They would prefer to be educated through videos as they are more comprehensive for them.
There are several inherit values that are added to the user when they read, such as enhanced vocabulary and having better imagination. But to outright claim that reading is more educational than watching videos or TV would be entirely inaccurate, because it depends on who the end consumer is and what topic of conversation is being discussed in either mediums.
