the chart below shows long-term international migration in UK
The diagram gives information about three types of UK migrations during the period from 1999 to 2008.
Overall, it is clear that the number of immigration is the highest of three types. While there was an increase in both immigration and emigration, this period saw a fluctuation in the net migration.
It can be seen that in 1999, over 450,000 people immigrated to the UK, whereas the rate of emigrants was just under 300 thousand. A 10-year period witnessed a fluctuation on both immigration and emigration; however, the immigration number was always higher than the emigration one. At the end of the period, the long term immigration was nearly 600,000, increasing by about 150,000. This number was followed by that of emigrants, which stood at around 400 thousand.
On the other hand, the net migration rate remained constant between 1999 and 2003, while it peaked at about 250,000 in 2004. This number in 2007 was the second largest ( about 220 thousand). Finally, in 2008, the figure for the net was reached to 180 thousand, which was the lowest of three kinds of immigration in UK at the same time.
