The following graph illustrates the unemployment rate in Rural and Urban areas in Australia in the 2012.
Overall, unemployment rate in rural areas experienced a downward trend, while unemployment in urban areas showed an upward trend throughout the period. Both figures showed some fluctuations.
Unemployment rate in rural areas accounted for approximately 6,5 percentages in the first quarter of the year. Then, it started to decline moderately hitting a low-point of 4,5 percentages by the end of the second quarter. Although the figure went up to about 5,5 % in the third quarter, it ended up the quarter with downward trend with 5%. In the 4th quarter unemployment rate of rural areas remained steadily reaching 5% by the end of the year.
Number of unemployed people in urban areas was about 2,2% at the beginning of the period. Although, the figure increased dramatically to 4% in the second quarter, it declined to approximately 2% by the end of the 3rd quarter. Then, unemployment rate rocketed to about 4% in the middle of the last quarter and reached around 4,9 % in the end of the period.
