The diagram below shows the manufacturing process for making sugar from sugar cane.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The drawing demonstrates the main stages which take place in the process of manufacturing sugar cane.
Overall, it is noticeable that the drawing involves a total of seven stages opening with planting and ending with drying and cooling.
At the beginning of the process, the sugar canes are planted and it takes 12 - 18 months for them to grow. After being fully grown, they are harvested either mechanically or manually. The manual harvest involves the farmer removing the leaves and chopping the stalks, while the mechanized method uses the machine to cut the canes directly. The sugar canes are then crushed in a mill to extract the juice, which is later on purified using the limestone filter.
At the fifth stage of the process, the purified juice is boiled in an evaporator and then turns into syrup. Subsequent to that, the syrup is poured into a centrifuge to seperate sugar crystals from syrup. Finally, the crystals are dried and cooled and the end result is sugar.
