The graph illustrates how many million tonnes were the forest industry produced, namely paper and packaging, sawn-wood, wood pulp in the UK over a period of 20 years.
In general, what stood out from the graph was that the amount of production of sawn-wood exceeded the figure for wood pulp for the first time in 1990. Meanwhile, as can be seen from the graph the most dramatic increase was in the amount of production of wood pulp during the last 10 years of the graph.
In 1980, the respective amount of paper and packaging, sawn-wood, and wood pulp stood at 230, 200, 160 million tonnes. Over the following 10 years, the amount of paper and packaging industry rose slightly to 250 million tonnes. There was a sharp decrease of 50 million tonnes in the amount of sawn-wood industry produced. A similar pattern could be seen for wood pulp, with the figure dropping to only 10 million tonnes.
By 2000, the amount of produced paper and packaging industry had experienced a dramatic surge to 350 million tonnes. Meanwhile, the year 2000 also witnessed a gentle increase to about 5 million tonnes in the amount of wood pulp industry produced. By contrast, the figure for sawn-wood industry continued to fall to under 150 million tonnes.
