TOEFL Writing practice test 9
First of all, the passage states that the original idea of the character of James Bond
comes from the mixture of various experiences from genuine spies working for British,
which are collected by Ian Fleming thanks to his expanding spy networks. However, the
lecture argues that this character's prototype is from a book depicting a spy called Popo,
a double spy agent of British.
Meanwhile, the passage mentions that it is impossible for any spies to have playful attitude and romantic relationship with women during their intelligence operations. The lecture, on the other hand, illustrates that Popo literally take avantage of his playboy characteristic to influtrate information.
Likewise, while the passage states that treating dangerous situation with a smile is too risky for any spies to do so, the lecture argues that this is possible, given that Popo does that frequently when he plays high stake poker game. Were he not astute enough, he surely would have lost his life.
Last but not least, according to the passage, Ian Fleming's narratives are completely fictional without any real conection with a singal real event. The lecture refutes, on the contrary, even if Popo does not use fire gun or any sophisicated gagets like James Bond does, he is the protoytpe of Bond as a lot of Popo's personalexperiences can be noticed in the novel.
