the graph below shows the average number of UK commuters travelling each day by car, bus or train between 1970 and 2030.
The statistical line graph illustrates the quantity of people commuting to work daily in the UK by three different modes of transportation in 10-year intervals, starting from 1970 to 2030.
Overall, it can be clearly observed that travelling to work by car and train will remain the most favorable form of transportation throughout the years. In contrast, the trend for commuting by bus is predicted to fall.
As indicated in the line graph, there was about 5 million people commuting to work by car in the beginning of the period which was recorded to be the highest number during the given timeframe. Subsequently, this figure increased minimally in 1980 before showing a gradual growth to roughly 9 million people in 2020. Besides, it is expected to keep rising to 9 million in 2030. Additionally, commuting by train was the least popular choice when showing a starting point at just under 3 million people in 1970. After that, the number of inhabitants in the UK choosing train to arrive at work grew dramatically to 3 million people in 2000 and then experienced a period of stability before being forecasted to climb to approximately 5 million people in 2030.
Another key feature is bus which used to be the second most popular form of transport between 1970 and 1980. However, from this milestone and onwards, it is foreseen to have a gradual fall to reach the lowest point at just under 3 million people, becoming the least popular option when workers commuting to work.
