The bar chart illustrates the percentage of weekly income was spent for various purposes by households in a country between 1968 and 2018.
Overall, it can be clearly seen from the chart that money for buying food outnumbered the others in 1968, while the percentage of weekly income spent on leisure took up most of the proportion in 2018.
In 1968, families used 35% of their weekly income for buying groceries, which took up the highest proportion, the figure then experienced a dip of 13% in 2018. As for the proportion of money spent every week on fuel, clothing and personal goods in 2018, there was also a drop of 3%, 5% and 4%, respectively. Furthermore, the percentage of weekly income used for household goods remained incredibly stable over a period shown.
Weekly spending on housing and leisure shared the similar percentage of money, around 10% each. Subsequently, the trend was reversed in 2018; the figure for leisure rose dramatically to 23%, which occupied the first place from that for food as well as the proportion of money spent on housing, which witnessed a rise of nearly 20%. Likewise, there was also a swift rise of approximately 15% in the percentage of weekly income used for transportation, which was half as many as the figure in 1968.
