Today, due to mass production, the trading of products with excessive levels of sugar drastically flourish. Along with the boom of such a business, a great number of health issues are induced, which stems from the nature that sugar might have an adverse effect on one’s health status. To combat the phenomenon, there are many suggestions that the price for sugary products should be raised higher, which I strongly advocate to some extent. The essay below will demonstrates the author’s personal perspective.
To begin with, there are two factors for price raise on sugary products. The first is to minimize the consumption of these items, since the majority of sugary food and drinks are purchased at a reasonable cost, which appears affordable even to the more impoverished. For instance, a can of coke costs averagely at under $1; with its low price, the beverage is distributed across households from different financial backgrounds. Another purpose of price increase or taxation on the sugary items is to boost financial resources for governments. While a high tax is introduced to a vast range of sugary items, a monetary sum from taxation will be extracted to national income; given that governments are able to invest into more beneficial sections, including medication. The two given factors might help reduce the risk of health issues like diabetes within each certain quantity of consumed sugar, whilst finances gained from taxation are distributed to medical areas to proceed the combat against severe effects on health.
However, raising to a higher price might not be the optimal choice for tackling the surge of health problems. Accordingly, once price increase is practiced, a severe financial loss will surge, given an enormous amount of profits companies specialised in sugary items can gain annually. The more suitable method is hence to cut down sugar levels within each food and beverage products, meanwhile adding more healthful substitutes such as natural syrups into the product content. This can appropriately meet the demands of health protection, along with avoiding detrimental influences on the economic status of companies producing items high in sugar levels.
In conclusion, from the author’s viewpoint, although the increase of prices for sugar products is recommendable, sugar level reduction can be a more effective alternative for the former method. In the future, as the society develops, there will be less items containing excessive sugar levels to introduce.
