One of the most controversial debates in the 21st century is regarding whether schools should focus on preparing their students for university education or work. There are many contrasting opinions on this topic. From my point of view, I completely disagree that school`s focus is on preparing their students for university education instead of work because we earn many fundamentals skills in school, which helps us to succeed in our career.
To begin with, it is necessary to understand that we learn many fundamental enabling skills through early education such as aptitude, problem-solving, logical reasoning, communication, and decision-making. By giving more importance to university preparation, we may lose focus on learning these skills as these are essentials to be successful in anybody`s career. For example, Software Engineers often use problem-solving and logical reasoning ability that they learned from school to create softwares that solve complex problems.
In addition, many famous scientists and entrepreneurs were successful without completing a university degree. For instance, Albert Einstein and Nicolas Tesla made groundbreaking discoveries only with their fundamental education learned in schools before obtaining any degree. Many universities awarded them with an honorary doctoral degree for their inventions in their later years.
On the other hand, preparing students at an early stage for university education can help students to enroll into any reputable universities that offer better career prospectus. To illustrate, universities today have arrangements with prospective employers to internship or placement to their students. University placement services may help many students to start their career immediately after graduation or even before graduation.
In conclusion, although, focusing on university education at school can help students have a higher chance of getting admission in a university that gives employment opportunities. I strongly disagree that schools must prepare students for university, rather than work because we learn critical enabling skills through school education, which are vital for having a successful career.
