peary's journey
The reading claims that there are some supports about the truth of Peary’s claim in regard to reaching the North Pole .however, the lecturer finds all the ideas dubious and prepares some evidence to refute them all.
First, the author argues that the national geographic society put a committee to evaluate equipment and records of Peary’s claim. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that although the National geographic committee did research, it was not an ideal research.it was objective, since the committee member were friends of Peary who cost a large amount of money to fund his trip. Indeed, this investigation took two days and Peary himself was one member of investigators. Hence, it was biased and was not base of truth.
Second, the reading passage holds the view that a recent expedition supports that Peary’s claim is true about 37days to reach the pole. On the contrary, the professor underlines the idea that Avery’s journey was different than Peary’s one. It is true it took 37days similarly Peary did, However, in this trip, there were not support of food and dropped from an airplane. In addition, Avery did it in the favor weather condition that was different than Peary’s trip. So, it does not support Peary’s claim.
Third, the reading asserts that some photos of Peary’s which took in the pole, endorse his claim. on the contrast, the speaker dismisses the idea due to the fact that there was no shadow which showed the exact position of the sun. Peary’s photo took 100 years ago which was unfocused one. Also, this photo faded and worn during this period. Therefore, it is hard to find that this if this photo was taken in the north polar.
