The graph below shows the proportion of the population aged 65 and over between 1940 and 2040 in three different countries.

The line graph given illustrates the information about the number of people who aged 65 years and more, in the three countries, namely USA, Sweden, Japan over the course 100 years from 1940 to 2040.
It is clear that the percentage of the population in the elderly saw an upward trend in the three countries. In particular, there was a significant increase in the old ages in Japan.
In 1994, around 9% of American were within the elderly group while Japan basted the least number of elderly people, with 5%. The number of Swedish belonged to ages 65 and more, stood at 7% in the period.
Regarding the USA, It climbed significantly to 15% in 1980 before going down in 2000, around 14%. The expectation is that the figure for the USA will experience sharp growth from 15% in 2020 to about 22% in 2040. Similarly, the percentage of elderly people in Sweden accounted for nearly matched the trend of the United States until about the year 1998. At this point, the rate of Sweden increases dramatically after falling slightly, approximately 20%. It is anticipated to decrease moderately until when it will go up again to a high of just over 25% in 2040.
As for Japan, It dropped to 3% in 1960, but this figure saw slow growth. The rate is predicted to boom to 5% in 2005 to 10% just a quarter - century later. By 2040, It is expected that the percentage of elder Japanese will have rocketed to the highest rate of 25%.
