The line graph compares average spending on landline phones and cell phones of American consumers from 2001 to 2010.
Overall, it is clear that the average expenditures on landline phone services fell significantly over 10-year period, while the figures of mobile phone services rose rapidly. The year 2006 marks the point at which spending of mobile phone services overtook that of residential phone services.
In 2001, the US consumers spent average of $200 on mobile phones, compared to nearly $700 on residential phones that threefold with cellphones' figure. Over the following five years, average annually spending on landline phone services dropped by nearly $200, while the expenditure on mobile rose sharply by $300 approximately.
In the year 2006 the average American paid out the same amount of money on both types of phone services, which spent over $500 on each. By 2010, the figure for residential phones had fallen to just half of this amount.
