The bar chart below shows the production of the world’s oil in OPEC and non-OPEC countries.
Write a short report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.
The chart illustrates the quantity of petroleum that has been produced between 1890 and 2000, is being produced from 2000 to 2010 and will be produced in the following 10 years. Units are measured in million barrels per day, and the countries taken into consideration are Non-OPEC, OPEC Middle-East, and other OPEC countries.
Overall, the production of oil was sustained in large part by non-OPEC countries at the beginning of the period, while the majority of world's petroleum is forecast to be produced by OPEC Middle-East countries at the end the period. The general trend presented in the graph shows steady growth in oil production for these middle-eastern countries, but a consistent decrease for non-OPEC nations.
Between 1980 and 2000, approximately 10 million barrel of oil were produced per day by countries not belonging to the OPEC. Conversely, Middle-East nations accounted for only one-fifth of the production. During the following decade, other OPEC countries started producing oil, which figures rounded at around 4 million, likewise the number of non-OPEC's oil barrels produced in the same period.
OPEC Middle-Eastern countries increased their production by four times between 2000 and 2010 and is forecast to reach 16 million barrels per day in the following 10 years. Together, other OPEC and non-OPEC nations will account for one-fourth of the total for that period.
