The lecture and the reading passage discuss genetically modified trees which used some process to change an organisms trees. Although the passage claims some positive aspect of this theory, the speaker refutes this idea through several reasons which I will describe in this reporter.
First and foremost, the reading points out that genetically modified trees have more resistance than local trees; hence, they can live longer than other trees. The lecturer, in contrast, rejects this by claiming that genetically modified trees are resistance for a particular situation, not for all condition. These trees are changed in genetically; therefore, they are uniform than other types of trees. If climate change for the place which genetically modified trees cultivate, all genetically modified trees would die. But, for local trees, some of them may survive in this condition.
Furthermore, unlike the passage which states, that genetically modified trees have economic benefits for farmers, the professor argues that genetically modified trees have hidden cost. Base on a low for each time that farmers want to grow these trees, they had to pay some money to a company.
Finally, although the reading passage says that genetically modified trees can prevent overexploitation of wild trees for using their wood, The speaker disagrees by mentioning that genetically modified trees are more aggressively to local trees. They out compact by native trees on the natural resources such as water, soil and sunshine. Hence, they would kill native trees.
