emission per person in 1967 and 2007/
The line graph compares annual level of carbon dioxide production per individual in four different European nations between years 1967 and 2007. The quantity of emission was calibrated in metric tonnes.
Overall, United Kingdom had remained the highest emitter of the greenhouse gas for 40 years of survey; however, in Portugal, emission of this gas is the lowest among the countries. Similarly, UK and Sweden were showing decreasing trend in CO2 emission whereas increasing pattern was witnessed in Italy and Portugal.
Despite gradual reduction of quantity of CO2 production in UK from nearly 15 metric tonnes in 1967 to about 9 in 2007, it had been most notorious for emitting CO2 comparing to other countries. Portugal, on the other hand, experienced significant rate of increase in carbon dioxide production, although it was the most environmentally friendly nation among these four European nation during the duration of survey.
At the beginning of year 1967, the second highest emitter (slightly above 8 MT) of the gas was Sweden emitting more than twice of the quantity emitted by, a third ranked nation, Italy. However, with combination of proliferation in emission pattern in Italy, and reduction in Sweden resulted in switching of their place in the list after 1987 when equal quantity of Carbon based gas was emitted by both countries.
