The graph below gives information from a 2008 report about consumption of energy in the usa since 1980 with projections until 2030.
The line graph illustrates how USA utilized 6 different sources of energy from the year 1980 ,and will be used in future till the year 2030. The energy consumption is calibrated in quadrillion units.
Overall, non-renewable energy sources, such as petrol, coal and natural gases, dominated the previous consumption pattern; however, other form of energy were least preferred by the country. This trend is projected to continue in next two decades.
Being most preferred fuel in USA during the period, petrol and oil was consumed approximately 35 quadrillion units of energy which accounted for less than double of the second positioned, natural gas, in the begining of the period. Although the figure flucturated in subtle way for three aforementioned non-renewable sources of energy, these value proliferated for many years. However, for renewable sources such as nuclear, solar and water, they have remained less than 10 units in these period. Among the three sources, at early year of the survey, solar/wind remained least popular fuel while in rest of the year along with the projection hydropower remained in last position in this regard. Most of above mentioned trends are predicted to be continued till 2030.
