The chart illustrates how many men and women in Britain pursued further education in the following time period: 1970 to 1971, 1980 to 1981 and 1990 to 1991 and also provides information about their mode of study(full-time or part-time). Units are measured in thousands.
Overall, the number of male and female students enrolled for part-time courses was higher than those enrolled in full-time courses. Furthermore, the number of women who pursued their further education increased steadily over the given time period in contrast to the number of men which fluctuated.
With regard to the students enrolled in full-time courses, the total number of men enrolled was below 200 thousand at the beginning of the time frame which rose steadily to reach somewhere below 200 thousand in the year 1980 before reaching somewhere above 200 thousand in 1990. However, the number of female students enrolled in the full-time course showed a similar trend with less than 200 thousand students in the year 1970 which rose to reach somewhere around 200 thousand and finally had more than 200 thousand students enrolled in the year 1990.
On one hand, the number of students enrolled in part-time courses was high with around 1000 thousand men enrolled in 1970 which decreased to around 800 thousand before reaching somewhere below 1000 thousand in 1990. On the other hand, the number of women enrolled in part-time courses increased steadily from around 800 thousand in 1970 to somewhere above 800 thousand in 1980 before crossing 1000 thousand by the end of the frame.
