The pie chart compares the proportion of languages being used on the Internet in December 2001. The table provides information about the total number and the percentages of internet users in 5 different years between November 1997 and August 2001.
Overall, the majority of the language used online was English. In addition, the number or the proportion of the internet users had increased throughout the period.
English almost took up to half of the online language. In order words, there was 41% of the language used on the internet was English, four times higher than Chinese and Japanese. Spanish and German were surprisingly lower than Chinese, with 6.5% and 6.7% respectively. Small proportions of others languages such as Korean, Italia, French, Dutch, Portuguese added up to about a quarter of the total.
Regarding the data table, whilst the number of people who had accessed to the internet soared up dramatically, the proportion was slowly. To be precise, the total figure raised about six fold from 76 million to 516 million users. Meanwhile, in comparison with the world population, the percentage of internet users only went up from 1.8% to 8.4%.
