Claim: When planning courses, educators should take into account the interests and suggestions of their students.
Reason: Students are more motivated to learn when they are interested in what they are studying.
Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the claim and the reason on which that claim is based.
Imagine a classroom where some students are attentive in class and others are sleeping back in the classroom because they don’t feel interested in the topic in the lecture. We all undergo the same scenario at least once in a lifetime. I partially agree with the statement that when planning courses, educators should take into account the interests and suggestions of their students. A student need to read lost courses and topic during a semester or a lesson but all course will not be interesting to the students. When educators design courses they need to take consider a lot of things like the job market, current trends, and upcoming growth in the world. Moreover, all student's interests are not the same so, a course will not be interesting to all the students also.
First of all, when student are interested in the subject they feel motivated to study the subject and the learning curve skyrocket. They invest a lot of time in the subject and sacrifice a lot of things to do better in the subject.
Sometimes they can learn by themselves from a different kind of source and make a better score in the subject, here classroom is the so much more important. For example, if an engineering student is interested in his subject he will spend a lot of time and learn a new skill easily that will make their career better and become a good workforce for the nation.
On the other hand, if the student doesn’t get interested in the subject they denounce the subject and get low marks in the exam. Sometimes they also leave engineering and become so depressed that leads to suicide, which is a common case in our society today.
Additionally, when students are interested in the subject they try to improve their knowledge of the subject, and they become scientists and make significant improvements in the subject. It is common in our society that students study only for job preparation but it does not lead society in a better direction. In Bangladesh most of the students in university study only for job preparation. They only pass their subjects with a low score, because they don’t get interested in the subject at all. But this low score in their grade sheet expresses their low seriousness in their study as a result they don’t get good Jobs.
Moreover, it is only possible to plan a course that will meet some student's interests. In today’s fast-paced world, there is internet in all hands, and students are exposed to diverse things. The test of interest changes a lot in today's world. So it is hard for educators to design a course that only contains interesting courses. Students don’t know the real education system and they are not experts on subjects in the courses. So educators try to maintain an international standard to provide a standard education. They try to keep all the students in a framework and lead the students in a shoplifted course. For example, a student in computer science is not interested in programming, which is the core subject of computer science. If a student doesn’t get interested in programming he should leave the major and try different things. And in the varsity label student has the freedom to choose their major and should take time to choose it properly.
In conclusion, student motivation is important for a better education in any field. So educators should include trendy and interesting subjects in the course so that they feel that they are studying. However, it is not possible in all field because some course has some major subject that must be taught in the course otherwise the course will be incomplete.
