The bar chart below shows the numbers of men and women attending various evening course at an adult education centre in year 2009. The pie chart gives information about the ages of these course participants.
The given charts illustrate the number of male and female students who attended four evening courses in 2009, drama, painting, sculpture, and language. They also give proportions of the attendances based on age groups.
Overall, it can be clearly seen that women participated in larger proportion to 3 out of 4 courses, with the most populated course being language. Men, on the other hand, preferred painting. While the sculpture course was preferred mostly by male attendants, it resulted to be the least preferred among all. When considering the age, the majority of students were senior citizens, aged 50 or above, and the young people aged under 20 accounted for 5% of the total.
In the language course, the number of women participants reached 40, doubled that of men's. The same trend is visible in the drama course, where female were 20 and male 10 in total. A difference of only 5 people can be noticed in the painting group and sculpture group, which, in particular, was attended by 10 men, half the number of women.
Based on the age group, it is obvious that the largest proportion is taken by people aged 50 or older, who accounted for 42% of the total. The second-largest age group is that of 40 to 49 years old, representing 26%, with a minimum difference from the 30-39 and 20-29 groups, that together combined for 27% of the total. The youngsters were, in contrast, only 5% of all the students.
