Essay topics:

The bar chart provides information about how families in a country spent weekly income in both 1968 and in 2018.

The given bar chart illustrates the weekly income spent by families in a nation in two different years. overall, the amount of money spent on food made up the largest proportion of total weekly income, while in 2018, families’ income was mostly spent on leisure. There was a decrease in the amount of money spent on food, fuel and power, personal goods, clothing, and footwear. In contrast, housing, transport, and leisure saw an increase in income spent on them.
we can see that, in 1968, the percentage of money paid out for food accounted for 35% of total weekly income, which is also the largest proportion. expenses such as housing, clothing and footwear were spent the same ( 10% for each of them) every week. the rest of the income earned each week was spent on personal goods, transport, leisure, fuel and power, there were not huge expenses since they all just made up for under 10% of total income.
it is interesting to note that, 50 years later, there was a rapid change in the way that families spent their weekly income. there was still about 17% of income spent on food, which was two times lower than in 1968. in contrast, the amount of income spent on leisure increased significantly (accounting for roughly a quarter of weekly income), followed by housing, whose figure made up almost 20%. additionally, the amount of weekly income spent on transport increase by 8% ( from 8% to 16%). income that paid out for fuel and power, clothing and footwear, and personal goods were lower, each of them just accounted for almost 5% of weekly income, an insignificant proportion. household goods were the only expense on which families spent unchanged.
