The graph below gives information about the percentage of the population in four Asian Countries living in cities from 1970 to 2020, with predictions for 2030 and 2040.
The illustrated line graph depicts the percentage of total population residing in cities of Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia in the past 50 years and its future prediction till 2040.
Overall, all cities had an increasing trend in total population with Malaysia and Indonesia increasing in an alarming rate. Philippines had the highest population during the initial year which will be overtaken by all other countries except Thailand.
Malaysia had second position in number of population in the year 1970, which had a slight dip only in the year 1990 and the remaining trends was and will be upward reaching at the peak of 80 percent in the future. Indonesia being the least populated city also had a similar trend with gradual increase surpassing Thailand in 2000 and Philippines after 10 year, and is predicted to withhold around 60 % of population in 2040.
Philippines initially had the highest population which had mere change for a decade, followed by swift recovery to around 50 percent. Population then fell gradually until 2010 and is predicted to increase with the same pace reaching the second highest position in 2040. Likewise, Thailand had gradual increase until 1990 which then had slight shift till 2020. However, it will recover to around 40 Percent at the ending year.
