The graph below shows the quantities of goods transported in the UK between 1974 and 2002 by four different modes of transport.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

You should write at least 150 words.

The given line graph illustrates the number of goods delivered by four distinct means of transportation in the UK from 1974 to 2002.
Overall, all four modes of transport experienced an upward trend. While goods transported by road and water were on the top of the graph, that of pipeline, on the other hand, ranked the lowest.
Looking at the graph, it is immediately obvious that road and water transportation were the most popular of the four. Starting off with approximately 70 million tones in 1974, road delivery then peaked in 2002 with nearly 100 million tones of goods delivered. A similar trend was seen with water transportation which went from about 38 million tones in 1974 to over 70 million tones at the end of the graph.
Goods transported by rail and pipeline were not as popular as the other two. The quantities of good delivered by rail increased marginally over the period to slightly over 40 million tones in 2002. With the lowest number of goods delivered by pipeline, this kind of transportation still increased progressively from almost nothing to over 20 million tones at the end of the graph.
