The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade*-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.
The tables illustrate the revenues from selling Fairtrade - labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five different European countries.
As can be seen from the tables, there was an upward trend in the sales of the surveyed items in all five nations. Moreover, bananas' earnings were higher than coffee's in general.
In particular, the UK recorded 4.5 million of euros sales from coffee in 1999, before the figure soared to 20 million in 2004, which was also the highest number in the table. Switzerland also experienced significant growth in sales when the 2004's number doubled at 6 million of euros. Denmark and Sweden were the two nations with the slightest rise, of only 0.2 million each.
Turning to bananas, Switzerland topped the the table with 47 million of euro in 2004, which was over three times the number in 1999. The similar increase was witnessed in the UK and Belgium, at 4.5 million and 3.4 million respectively. By contrast, the bananas' sales in Sweden and Denmark went down between 1999 and 2004, both under a million in 2004.
