Topic: New technologies have changed the way children spend their free time. Do you think the advantages outweigh the disadvantages?
In the realm of cutting-edge technology, individuals’ lifestyles have changed in every aspect of all ages, particularly children. In fact, advanced technology is one of the key factors that contribute to adjusting the way children spend their spare time. From my perspective, they are overshadowed by the benefits that technology offers young people.
One major ground behind the reason why many people claim that technology is negative for children is that could pose a risk to both physical and mental health. This is because children might have a tendency to spend a vast amount of time surfing on the Internet, getting too much screen time. Therefore, they do not have enough time to participate in outside activities or hit the gym regularly, leading to severe chronic diseases such as obesity or heart attack, even at an early age. Furthermore, it is not only physical health but also mental well-being. As youngsters are destined to excessively utilize social media platforms, they no longer maintain face-to-face interactions with other people or have intimate relationships, thus being prone to sleep deprivation or psychological matters.
On the flip side, technology’s advantages should also be taken into consideration due to promoting learning and skills development. Today, there is a vast array of educational apps and games that enable children to learn mathematics, science, and language skills in a simple, fun, and engaging manner without having to be in a classroom with a teacher. In addition. Video games have the potential to teach children problem-solving, and critical thinking. And hand-eye coordination skills. Thanks to breakthroughs in digital technology, these days, youngsters are likely to strike up a conversation or qualified relationship with foreigners through virtual reality, doing away with distance barriers.
In conclusion, while certain technologies are associated with a number of potential disadvantages for children, the negative impacts can be avoided through effective parental control regarding the amount of time that children spend using such technologies and the type of content that they view.
