The graph show average CO2 emissions per person in the UK, Sweden, Italy and Portugal between 1967 and 2007
The chart represents averaged metric tonnes of carbon dioxide measured per person in various European countries from 1967 to 2007.
Overall, United Kingdom occupied the first place in CO2 emissions per person for all 40 years, meanwhile, Portugal stayed on the last place among given countries. Although, both countries had reversed lines: increasing one in Portugal and decreasing one in UK. As we can see, the overall carbon dioxide pollution had a spread in the range of nearly one and eleven at the beginning of the period converging to five-nine metric tonnes at the end of the period.
In 1967, the minimum of carbon dioxide emission was registered in Portugal, while the maximum was reached in United Kingdom. At the same time, Sweden and Italy had approximately four and nine metric tonnes of emissions per person, respectively. The next ten years the numbers increased in Portugal, Italy, and Sweden, however, the pattern for United Kingdom was reversed.
An upward trend had remained in Portugal and Italy: the emissions had risen over the long-term until reached a plateau in last decade of the period. Similarly, the numbers followed a downward trend in United Kingdom: the carbon footprint declined and achieved under nine metric tonnes per person in 2007. Swedish emissions reached a peak in 1977 and then dipped to nine tonnes by the end of the period.
