The chart below shows how frequently people in the USA ate in fast food restaurants between 2003 and 2013
The chart illustrates the frequency of Americans who consumed fast food in restaurants over the course of 10 years starting in 2003.
As can be seen from the chart, there were periods of fluctuation in the years surveyed in all categories of frequency. Moreover, it was recorded that people in America were most likely to eat in fast food restaurants once a week while the figures for eating everyday or never were the lowest.
In particular, there was under 5% of people who consumed fast food everyday in 2003 and the figures for 2006 and 2013 were even lower, at 3%. The similar pattern happened with the "never" sector, with higher percentages of 5% and 4% respectively. Furthermore, the figures for Americans eating in fast food restaurants many times per week, once a week or just a few times a week all witnessed a slight rise of approximately 2% between 2003 and 2006. Meanwhile the percentages for people consuming frequently and one time a week fell in the next 7 years, from 20% to above 15% for the former and from 33% to 28% for the latter, the number of people eating occasionally, just a few times per year kept stable. By contrast, it was the “ once or twice a month" category that registered fluctuation over the period, with a 5% decrease before significantly increasing to 33% in 2013.
Interestingly, while this sector saw marked rise, the figures for people consuming fast food every week were still the highest.
